Ben Hodges (In Memoriam)

Note: It is with profound sadness that we reported the death of Edison Energy Chief Financial Officer Ben Hodges on Sept. 8, 2020.
With more than 18 years of experience within the Edison family of companies, Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role as Chief Financial Officer. A proven leader in energy and utility finance, Ben has extensive experience in FP&A, valuation, budgeting, risk management, strategic planning, M&A, and regulatory matters.
Prior to his current role at Edison Energy, Ben served as the Director of Operational Finance at Southern California Edison, holding finance responsibility and support for Southern California Edison’s operating units with total spend of ~$7 billion annually. Ben’s prior roles at Edison include Director of Financial Planning & Analysis at both the utility and parent company and Director of Finance in Regulatory Affairs. During his time at Edison, he led numerous economic analyses, served as the company’s expert financial witness for large projects such as SmartConnect and SAP, drove the divesting of Edison’s last coal generating station and championed multiple operational excellence and affordability initiatives including the redesign of Edison’s budgeting and goals process.
Ben holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designations, is a member of CFALA, CFA Institute, and Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), and serves as Treasurer on the non-profit board of Long Beach Organic, a non-profit organization operating organic community gardens in the city limits of Long Beach. He has a Bachelor of Science (magna cum laude) and MBA from the University of Southern California.
A passionate teacher, Ben has served as an instructor at the USC/CFALA CFA Review Course for over 10 years teaching Corporate Finance and Equity Valuation. When Ben is not working or teaching, he also loves snowboarding, weightlifting, and spending time with his wife and two sons.
