The electricity market in Mexico faces important changes, ranging from the development of new renewable generation assets and related supply through Qualified Suppliers, to the lack of investment in transmission and distribution lines and a constantly evolving regulatory framework.
During this webinar, Edison Energy will describe and explore the key components of the current energy market in Mexico, including:
- Market dynamics, such as energy and congestion costs and the regulatory framework,
- Qualified supply opportunities, and;
- The best supply alternatives, along with possible related cost savings for industrial consumers.
Presenters:
Fabrizio Puga
VP, Global Business Development
Fabrizio joined Edison Energy’s team of energy experts in 2010. As Vice President of Global Business Development for Edison, he is responsible for the growth of Edison’s international services as well as the coordination of members of the Energy Experts Alliance. While at Edison, Fabrizio has expanded global service capabilities by seeking out and establishing like-minded partners for the Energy Experts Alliance to provide clients with global energy management with local expertise. He is also a key member in the development and expansion of Edison’s advisory service in Mexico.
Prior to joining Edison, Fabrizio worked in global energy sourcing for an international paper company and was also VP of Business Development for an energy and carbon consultant. He has worked in the energy industry since 1993 and has experience in both the regulated and deregulated energy landscapes as well as expansive knowledge on multiple international energy markets. Fabrizio is a graduate of Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in international management and has an MBA from University of Texas at Austin. He is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Gerardo Márquez
Senior Energy Manager, México Markets’
Gerardo Márquez has spent the past ten years navigating and shaping the Mexican energy market. Proficient in financial and economic analysis Gerardo uses his first-hand knowledge of natural gas and electricity regulation to provide energy strategy and guidance to his clients at Edison. Before joining the Edison team, Gerardo worked as an economic adviser of the President, Deputy Executive Director in Regulation at the National Center for Natural Gas Control (CENAGAS) and Director of Analysis and Regulation in a Qualified Supplier and Natural Gas Marketeer. He oversaw the development of the regulatory role of CENAGAS and led negotiation in gas supply and Electricity Market contracts.
Gerardo has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and in Law from the Mexican Autonomous Technological Institute (ITAM) and partial studies in a master’s in Finance at the same institution. Gerardo has taken courses by the World Energy Council, a certificate in Energy Law by the Escuela Libre de Derecho and various courses about the Electric Market by CENACE. Gerardo is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Alberto Campos
Energy Manager, México Markets
As an Energy Manager for Edison Energy, Alberto leverages his regulatory background to advise clients on Renewable projects in Mexico. Recently, given Mexico’s energy reform and the opening of the energy sector, Alberto successfully navigated several clients through the compensation of their emissions to achieve carbon neutrality. Alberto provides analysis, strategy development, and regulatory guidance to Mexican markets across many industries such as, automotive, chemicals, and packaging.
Prior to joining Edison, Alberto worked for the Energy Regulatory Commission, contributing to the development and implementation of the Certificate Management and Compliance System of Clean Energy Obligations (S-CEL). In the Energy Regulatory Commission, he participated in the team that developed the Wholesale Electricity Market and its regulation. Alberto has been active in the energy industry since 2005 and has experience in both regulated and deregulated energy markets in Mexico.
Alberto is a graduate of Universidad de las Americas Puebla with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering as well as an M.S. in Environmental Engineering and Technology. Alberto is proficient in both Spanish and English.
