Around the Year with Edison Energy: Powering the Path Forward

Corporate momentum was the headline for 2023
This year was underscored by bold climate action from our corporate, industrial, and institutional clients in North America and Europe, who continue to blaze a trail towards a net-zero future. Our global clients are setting, meeting, and exceeding bold sustainability and renewables targets through innovative, integrated solutions – all proudly supported by Edison Energy.
Here’s a month-by-month snapshot of some of our highlights across the year:
January
The power of together
We began the new year as one global company, having acquired Alfa Energy in late 2022. With our combined expertise, advanced technological capabilities, and expanded international reach, we hit the ground running, working together to help our corporate, industrial, and institutional clients achieve positive, measurable impact.
February
How sweet it is!
The Hershey Company was named the Gold level winner for Corporate Sustainability Initiative by The Cleanie Awards, which recognizes innovators and those making an impact in driving the clean energy economy. Edison Energy is proud to have worked with Hershey on several of its clean energy initiatives, serving as an advisor on Hershey’s energy procurement strategies to support its broader sustainability goals.

Globetrotters
Our teams attended and presented at some of the industry’s biggest events across the globe. From the Energy Savings & Management Conference in Ohio and the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in California, to the Solar Power Summit in Belgium and RE-Source in Croatia and Poland, our subject matter experts were on the ground to connect and engage with stakeholders across the industry.

Powering clients
Edison Energy reached 11.2 GW+ of offsite renewable procurement deals, helping our corporate, industrial, and institutional clients across diverse sectors – including many of the Fortune 500 – meet and exceed their decarbonization goals.
Planet first
From New York to Mexico to Sarajevo and everywhere in between – Edison Energy’s global teams spent Earth Day cleaning up beaches, planting trees, and showing Mother Earth some love.

Disclosure to decarbonization
We were proud to publish “Disclosure to Decarbonization,” a white paper exploring how companies can set and achieve their climate goals. The paper lays out how sustainability leaders can create a strategy that centers implementation and impact from the very beginning.
June
Client kudos
Edison Energy was proud to work with leading manufacturer Covestro, which signed its first major renewable energy agreement for its U.S. operations. The 90 MW vPPA with Orsted for the planned Mockingbird Solar Center in Lamar County, Texas, is slated to offset 70,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and will reduce Scope 2 emissions from Covestro’s third largest production site, located in Baytown, Texas.
Live from Stonewall
To celebrate Pride Month, Edison Energy was joined by an all-LGBTQ+ panel of experts to discuss the queering of environmental justice, held live from New York City’s historic Stonewall Inn – where Pride began.
Stuttgart roundtable
Edison Energy was joined by partners Manufacture 2030 (M2030) and Suppliers Partnership for the Environment for a roundtable and networking event in Stuttgart, Germany. The event brought together auto industry experts and peers on best practices and developments around sustainability, energy markets, and supplier engagement.

Bringing supply chains to net zero
Honda joined Edison Energy and Alfa Energy on a webinar with participants from the automotive, pharmaceutical, shipping, and other heavy industrial sectors, to explore some of the practical steps global manufacturers can take to bring their supply chains to net zero.

Electrifying conversations
Edison Energy’s Transportation Electrification team joined Bristol Myers Squibb and Velocity Vehicle Group at Electrify 23, hosted by GreenBiz, for a compelling panel discussion on integrating fleet electrification and infrastructure strategies.
September
Places powering progress
Edison Energy is proud to have served as an advisor to logistics real estate giant Boston Properties (BXP), which signed a PPA with Enel North America for a 21 MW portion of the Estonian solar project under construction in Delta County, Texas. The solar project, coupled with a 104 MW battery system, contributes to BXP’s sustainability progress while supporting Texas’ reliance on solar power and battery storage in the ERCOT grid.
Decarbonizing industry
Leading international manufacturer Saint-Gobain signed a 15-year PPA with TotalEnergies for the purchase of solar power for its 125 industrial sites in North America. The 100 MW PPA, known as the Danish Fields Solar Project, is expected to offset Saint-Gobain’s North American Scope 2 emissions by 90,000 Metric Tons per year. Danish Fields is the third PPA signed in North America by Saint-Gobain, with all three supported by Edison Energy.
Joining forces for Climate Week NYC
As part of Climate Week NYC, Renew Energy Partners, Edison Energy, and M2030 hosted a roundtable discussion around overcoming financial hurdles in implementing net-zero roadmaps. The event, held at the Yale Club, was a meaningful conversation among industry leaders on making progress towards net zero.

Edison Energy marked the one-year anniversary since the acquisition of Alfa Energy. November
Decarbonizing pharma
Science and technology company Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, signed PPAs with Matrix Renewables and Renantis, with the guidance of Altenex Energy (DBA Edison Energy in the U.S.), to build five renewable energy projects totaling 130 MW of wind and solar in Spain. Altenex played an instrumental role in facilitating the process, providing technical expertise to support Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany’s strategic goal to reduce its environmental footprint.
For people and planet
Global biopharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) contracted 145 MW of solar from National Grid Renewables for its Blevins Solar Project, located in Falls County, Texas. The project is expected to benefit local and statewide communities through the production of millions of dollars in new tax revenue and landowner income, the creation of new jobs, and local spending. Edison Energy was proud to serve as BMS’ independent advisor, providing renewables market expertise and analytics support, which allowed BMS to assess long-term implications of its investment.

COP28 UAE
Edison Energy attended COP28 UAE in Dubai, where the world took stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement to help align global efforts on climate action. With a focus on several themes including technology and innovation, inclusion, frontline communities, and finance, COP28 was a prime opportunity to “rethink, reboot, and refocus” the climate agenda.
